Grat requests location access to show your position and record a hiking track. During an active hike, Apple Watch can use its own GPS so recording does not depend on the iPhone being nearby. Location points, timestamps, and derived distance stay in the app’s private storage and are not sent to Loadchange or used for live location sharing.

A completed activity can move from your paired Watch to your iPhone through Apple’s WatchConnectivity service. This is a device-to-device app transfer, not an upload to a Grat server.

On Apple Watch, Grat asks for permission to create and save a completed hiking workout in Apple Health. The workout session also supports continued outdoor recording while the hike is active. Grat does not request permission to read your other Health data.

You control Apple Health authorization in watchOS. Grat cannot start its supported hike-recording workflow if permission to save the workout is denied. Workouts already saved to Health remain under your Apple Health settings and can be reviewed or deleted in Apple’s Health and Fitness apps.

Grat can use the Watch altimeter and motion access to improve elevation readings during a hike. Sensor processing happens on the Watch. The resulting altitude values may form part of the activity record; Grat does not send raw motion or altimeter streams to the developer.

Offline map packages, settings, active hike drafts, and activity history are stored in the private app containers on your iPhone and Watch. The Watch keeps a completed activity in a durable outbox until the paired iPhone confirms that it has saved the record, which prevents an interrupted connection from losing the hike.

The offline map package is transferred from iPhone to Watch with Apple WatchConnectivity. The copies installed on your devices remain in private app storage. The same licensed production package is also a public map-data download; your activity files are not public and are not uploaded to a developer account.

iCloud backup is off by default. If you enable it in Grat settings, the app stores an activity archive—including track points, summary values, and deletion records—in Grat’s private documents container in your personal iCloud account. Apple operates the iCloud service; Loadchange does not operate an iCloud dashboard or receive a copy of that archive.

Turning the setting off stops Grat from loading or updating the cloud archive, but may not immediately erase a file already held by iCloud. Deleting an activity updates the archive with a deletion record when backup is enabled. You can also manage Grat’s iCloud data through Apple’s iCloud storage controls.

Grat has no account, advertising, in-app behavioral analytics, or tracking endpoint. When you ask to download an offline map, the iPhone app makes a Wi-Fi-only HTTPS request to 084817.xyz. Grat does not attach your hike or Health record, precise GPS location, advertising identifier, or an account identifier to that request.

Vercel delivers the map and can record edge-request and firewall history data such as IP address, city and country derived from IP, request time and path, User-Agent, and related HTTP or security diagnostics. Loadchange uses this hosting data only to deliver the map, protect the service, and diagnose reliability. It is not used for advertising, behavioral profiling, or cross-app tracking. Before anonymization, a record may remain linked to its IP address or request and device context.

The Swiss Central Alps package uses OpenStreetMap data and contour lines produced from Copernicus DEM GLO-30. The exact distributed database, manifest, source ledger, transformations, licence notice, and ODbL source offer are public. Viewing an installed map does not send your position to either source.

Grat also relies on Apple platform services for App Store distribution, permissions, Apple Health, WatchConnectivity, and—only when enabled—iCloud. Apple handles those services under its own privacy policy.

You remain in control of each data path:

• Change Location, Motion & Fitness, and Health permissions in Apple system settings.
• Delete individual hike records from Grat on iPhone; deletion is included in the optional iCloud archive when backup is enabled.
• Remove locally downloaded map data from Grat’s map settings.
• Turn optional iCloud backup off at any time and manage stored app data in Apple’s iCloud settings.
• Uninstall Grat to remove its local app containers. A workout already saved to Apple Health and a file already stored in iCloud are managed separately through Apple’s controls.

The iPhone app declares no tracking or tracking domains. Because its map requests use the developer’s Vercel host, its privacy disclosure lists Coarse Location (city and country derived from IP) and Other Diagnostic Data for App Functionality. Those request records may be linked to IP, request, or device context before anonymization, but are not used for tracking. The Watch app makes no external request and declares no collected data types. Both apps also declare the Apple required-reason API categories they use: app-only preferences on both devices and available disk-space checks on iPhone before a map download.

Grat is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect their hike, Health, or account-profile data. A map request can still create the ordinary host network and security metadata described above. Grat has no user profiles, social features, or advertising identifiers.
